Sciatica

Did you know that research shows that when the secondary condition, known as sciatica, is treated with Structural chiropractic adjustments, there is an 8-9% greater rate of recovery than if patients were to use therapy or standard medical care?

Before we address the reasoning behind why Structural Chiropractic adjustments are so effective with this condition, let me provide you with some insight as to what “sciatica” is and how its caused.
First of all, one of the more common causes of sciatic related pain is what we call a Structural Shift in the spine. The shift in the spine causes a bulge or herniation of the soft pulpy discs which separate the spinal bones. The next step in the process is that the disc can then irritate or put pressure on the sciatic nerve roots as they leave the spinal cord. The result of this is an intense pain shooting down one or both legs. A full-blown sciatic flare up can involve the entire sciatic nerve path resulting in symptoms of lower back pain, burning, cramping or numbness that radiates into the thighs, legs, ankles, feet and toes. Pain may also be limited to various points along the nerve, such as the buttocks, knee area and calf. One other important thing to note is that the lumbar spine, where the sciatic nerve begins, is the most frequently injured area of the spine which leads to many sciatic related problems.

In the past people who suffered from Sciatica pain found a measure of relief from pain medications, muscle relaxers, physical therapy and in some cases surgery. The approach in Structural Chiropractic is to carefully assess each level of the spine and then use carefully and specifically directed adjustments to remove the shifts in the spine and therefore remove interference placed on spinal nerves. Chiropractic adjustments can be very effective in reducing nerve irritation and its associated pain and therefore patients often respond dramatically to the restoration of normal spinal function through specific and conservative chiropractic care.

We realize you have a choice in whom you consider for your health care provision and we sincerely appreciate your trust in choosing our service for those needs. If you, a friend, or a family member requires care for Sciatica, Synergy Chiropractic would be honored to render our services.
